![]() ![]() The whole gameplay of Duke can be resumed in one of his most famous quotes:Īnd this mainly for two reasons: first of all it’s an FPS so 99% of time you’ll be busty to crack enemies’ skulls in order to proceed with the game. However the best part of the plot, even though it’s not tecnically part of it, is the great range of cachphrases that Duke can pronounce. Aliens bastards invade planet Earth and all the world turn the eyes of Duke the last hero who can save them. The plot is rather straightforward if you consider the first two installments of the Duke saga. Though are not the graphics the main aspect mostly remembered of this game, they’re a delight for the eyes and somethingnot to be missed! The detail level in Duke was awesome for the time and it’s still impressive nowadays, even though through a retrogaming perspective: sprites, explosions, variety of setting (light, shadows, earth, moon…whatever!) make thi THE game of reference among the FPS and for sure one of the best games of all-time. The engine was very successful and it was used also for Shadow Warrior and Blood. There are some main improvements from the forerunner for example the possibility to have different ceiling/floor height and slopes, sloped wall design and in general a better rendering of the textures. It is also very cool to have a demo of the game while you browse on the main menu.ĭN3D uses a modified version of the Doom graphic engine, named Build engine, an upgraded engine but always a pseudo-3D one (in fact is classified as a 2.5D engine). The background music is also damn good and cheers you up what you need to kick alien asses. Absolutely a must in every gamer collection.Įverytime you see that nuclear symbol being bombed by what it looks like an RPG bullet, you know that you’re about to get fun. I remember when I fisrt played it and when a friend of mine borrowed me the Plutonium Pak: I spent the long winter months sitting on the chair in front of the PC playing over and over again. The great graphics, the desecrating behavior of Duke and the exceptional gameplay of DN3D have captured me from the first time. This is by far my favourite FPS of all time an I don’t think another game could ever undermine its position. Even if FPSs are not your kind of games, it’s most likely you’ve played Duke at least once and for sure this is one of the few games where the protagonist became more famous than the game itself becoming an icon. There’s no human being who doesn’t love Duke after playing it. Drop your hat for the Duke guys, here’s another game that well deserved its 10/10
